Great Viral Campaign- Axe and College Humor Prank War’s Half Court Shot

This is part 2 in my 3 part series titled “Here are some Blogs about online advertising I am writing before the Ohio State game that they better freaking win”. Its hard to define conversational marketing or viral marketing in layman’s terms. If I had to try I would say it would be injecting and integrating your brand seamlessly into a popular niche content enviroment in a way that does not disturb the content itself. Below is a tremendous example. Axe sponsored the video below and got the ad units around the video on collegehumor.com. They also got the verbal mention in the video. The back story of this video is that 2 employees at College Humor have been engaging in a prank war for several years. Each time the stakes and level of difficulty go up. To my knowledge this is the first time a sponsor has been involved in one of the pranks. I won’t tell you anything else, because it is too good not to just watch.

The prank before this is below. You can see the rest of the videos by searching prank war on College Humor as well as Vimeo and Youtube.  They are all highly entertaining. Below is the one in which Streeter is trying to avenge.

Kudos to Axe for stepping up to the plate in this campaign as well to College Humor’s ad sales department for making this happen. Maryland also gets some love for not asking too many questions and avoiding being a party pooper.
