Gen Y and the Recession and Real World Angst Video History

I have had some ideas for some cool blogs to write, but have been slammed at work of late. One that I did want to plant the seed for a post this weekend is this horrible recession and its affects on Gen Y. Gen Y is currently and over the past couple of years sent a record amount of highly educated, technology savvy, and angst filled young people to the workplace/ real world.

I think the results have been more mixed then previous generations but overall positive thus far. However this god awful recession has the magnitude and staying power to really alter Gen Y’s overall acclimation to adulthood. Its an odd standoff as the most highly educated, culturally sophisticated, and technology differentiated generation ever is now crashing into the real world with the most ominous economic conditions in decades. Sometime this weekend, I’ll carve out some time to hypothesize what I think will shake out. I’ll shoot from the hip and not regurgitate what someone twice my age thinks. Below are some links to check out as people are on both sides of the fence here. http://www.allbusiness.com/labor-employment/human-resources-personnel/11681969-1.html http://www.itworld.com/career/57496/why-gen-y-unprepared-survive-recession http://www.borderwatch.com.au/archives/1835 http://www.cio.com/article/458422/_Reasons_Gen_Y_May_Survive_Recession_Layoffs_Better_than_Gen_X_and_Boomers_

Finally some lame videos, because those are always good. The common theme in all seems to be that encouragement for education and achievement may be too over zealous where social needs/curiosity as well as real world conditions may have dictated that younger generations needed or preferred a more genuine, explorative, and analytical heart to heart rather then irrational exuberance.
