Hollywood Continuing 80’s Nostalgia with Rambo, Indiana Jones, AVP Requiem, and Transformers

I am sure someone else has written about this, but it’s pretty interesting how many recent and upcoming movies are rehashes of 80’s classics. I just saw a commercial for the new Rambo. Sylvester Stallone will be reprising the role of John Rambo (yes he has a first name) nearly 20 years after Rambo 3 crash and burned. This comes about a year after Stallone added one last successful Rocky movie to the lengthy series after a 15+ year hiatus as Rocky Balboa.

Also due to come out next month is Alien vs Predator although Sigourney Weaver and my governor have opted to forgo this borderline B movie.

One of the more anticipated releases of 2008 is sure to be Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett teaming on the screen and George Lucas and Steven Spielberg teaming off screen, movie buffs are optimistic the new Indiana Jones will meet lofty expectations.

Other 80’s icons such as Transformers and Die Hard have been wildly successful as recent releases of these series’ have been enthusiastically received by critics and movie goers alike.

All of these 80’s classics seem to have found new life in the age of CGI, high def, and nostalgic Gen Y and Gen X movie goers looking for modern versions of their favorite movie series as child or teen. Hopefully Dirty Harry and Back to the Future are next to follow.
