CBS= March Madness Enablers

Before I get into the meat of this blog, I wanted to pass along this. Someone on a message board I frequent knew the bracket seedings 30 minutes before the announcement show. The thread has been deleted (why?), but this person correctly told of the four number one seeds, that Ohio State was a 8 seed, would play Sienna, with the winner playing Louisville.

Up until this point, I really thought that the whole country had to watch the selection show. Besides the NFL draft, this is probably the most some of the most anticipated info in the sport’s world. No idea how someone would have it ahead of time, but you are all allowed to guess with me in the comments.

With the selection show behind us and the first round of games under 90 hours away, I wanted to give some love to CBS.

Since I can remember they have broadcasted the NCAA Tournament and have done an absolutely tremendous job. That’s high praise coming from a guy who loves to nitpick.

But CBS has not limited their prowess at broadcasting games to just television. This year CBS will be streaming games in HD over the internet for free. This service has had problems in the past as the amount of users has crippled their back end systems. However its been improved of late and will now up the ante by broadcasting in HD. As in year’s past, the players will have the famed “boss button” , allowing slacking office workers the ability to call this spreadsheet to cover up the game when needed.

In addition, fans of the madness will have a new option when it comes to slacking off in an office environment. CBS has just released an Iphone application that streams games for Iphone users with access to Wifi. For those with 3g or Edge, they will have the ability to listen to audio feeds of the game.

Given that the business professional workforce is largely college graduates who will have a rooting interest not to be productive on the four workdays that the tournament overlaps, both the boss button and Iphone app are great enablers to the American obsession that is March Madness.
