ESPN Gives a Pessimistic Start to Beijing Olympics

At a workplace full of sports fan I brought up how I felt that this year’s Olympics lacked a lot of the buzz of past Olympics. There is a plethora reasons behind the lack of excitement (distance, protests, media restrictions, time zone incompatibility, timing-pushed back 2 weeks so now its contending with pre season football), but one you really have to look at is ESPN’s coverage of the event.

While its easy to say that ESPN really hasn’t enthusiastically promoted the games (which airs on a different channel), it should be noted that the broadcasting restrictions on broadcasting the games have limited their ability to cover the event.

Let’s just hope that the tone and coverage of the Olympics improves from today’s ominous pre game coverage. If
